EH Music Camp

The Emmanuel Hall Homeschool Co-op is hosting its very first music camp this year as a prelude to the annual Christus Rex festival held at Emmanuel Church.

Our aim is to foster a love for glorifying God in corporate skillful singing. We are seeking to have our children keep God’s Word hidden in their hearts, grow in skill to praise His Name, and to be a gift to any church they worship in as they grow to be mature Christian men and women.

Age Groups

Asaph Group (Ages 5–7)
Beginning Musicians / Non-readers
Musicians will grow their love and joy for music through singing, movement, and musical games. Students will explore how music works by learning to identify high and low sounds (pitches), hearing when notes move up or down, and keeping a steady beat through clapping, stepping, and simple instruments.

Students will also listen for, and identify, loud and soft sounds (dynamics) and fast and slow tempos. They will begin learning basic choir habits such as standing tall for good singing posture, using big breaths, and singing together as a group for the glory of God.

Bach Group (Ages 8–12)
Developing Musicians / Readers
Musicians will focus on singing confidently and clearly, including using proper posture, healthy breathing, and expressive singing. Students will strengthen their listening skills and learn how to blend their voices together when singing in a group.

Students will learn foundational music theory skills such as reading basic rhythms and note values, understanding how long notes last, and keeping a steady beat while singing and moving. They will also begin exploring simple musical notation, recognizing when notes move higher or lower, and learning basic pitch matching. Choir basics such as warm-ups, vowel shaping, diction (clear words), and singing together as an ensemble will help students grow as confident young musicians.

Watts Group (Ages 13–18)
Intermediate and Developing Musicians / Readers
Musicians will focus on confident, engaged, and expressive singing while developing strong choir skills. Students will practice healthy vocal habits, including proper warm-ups, breath support for longer phrases, and consistent practice routines. Singers will work on pitch accuracy (landing clearly on notes rather than sliding), expanding their comfortable singing range, and controlling loud and soft dynamics for musical expression. Students will also learn to sing in 2- and 3-part harmony, discovering how different voice parts work together in a choir.

Students will continue developing music reading skills by identifying note values, rhythms, and melodic patterns, and by learning how to find and sing soprano, alto, or tenor lines within a piece of music. They will also practice listening and blending with others, an essential skill for ensemble singing.
